Charles Le Brun was a French painter and art the orist who lived in the1600s, a court painter to Louis XIV. His most famous work is at the Palace of Versailles, a place I visited more than once as a teenager, but wouldn’t you know, besides a vague memory of lots of ornate wall murals, I can only recall walking in the gardens and buying ice cream. Le Brun was charged by King Louis to completely re-design Versailles, turning it into a lavish formal meeting place. Le Brun, a master of altarpieces and grand battle scenes, was the man for the job .
